PRODUCT OVERVIEW

The Airport GTS (Ground Traffic Surveillance, Safety & Support) system is a modern solution designed to support Chopin Airport Services by providing Surveillance (SUR) and Airport Safety Support (ASS) services, particularly in Runway Monitoring and Conflict Alerting (RMCA). The system satisfies requirements for class A-SMGCS (Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System) systems according to the EUROCAE MASPS ED-87E and EUROCONTROL ASMGCS SPEC-171 standards.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Airport GTS system enables tracking of non-cooperative and cooperative objects (vehicles, Ground Support Equipment (GSE), aircraft). Non-cooperative objects come from the SMR (Surface Movement Radar) primary radar, and cooperative objects are received from MLAT (Multilateration), ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) surveillance sources, and from the PANSA air traffic control system - Pegasus21 (Polish Enhanced Generation ATC System for Unified Solutions of the 21st Century).
  • The entire system GUI is available via a web browser from users workstations, notebooks, or tablets The display consists of several layers: system tracks, airport infrastructure including runways, stop-bars, aprons, stands, taxiways, restricted areas, and other necessary geometries and obstacles.

ENSURES

surveillance

The diversity of data sources provides high redundancy of radar/surveillance information. The Airport GTS system produces a reliable picture of airport ground traffic (including departing and arriving aircraft within the declared area of interest) in the form of system tracks that are displayed in real-time on a vector map background. The system tracks are subject to further ASS/RMCA analyses.

airport safety support

The Airport GTS system is capable of monitoring RMCA in terms of predicting the following events that may occur in a short time:
• traffic conflicts between taking off/landing aircraft and vehicles/GSE/aircraft in airport ground traffic, within the boundaries of designated runway protection zones.
• traffic conflicts between taking off/landing aircraft and aircraft at a defined height operating above the runway area or on approach (e.g., helicopters in flight or aircraft performing a low pass maneuver).
• traffic conflicts between taking off/landing aircraft from opposite directions of the same runway.
• traffic conflicts between taking off/landing aircraft and vehicles/GSE/aircraft operating on the crossing runway.
• traffic conflicts between non-cooperative objects (not equipped with transponders/transmitters) approaching or on the runway and other vehicles/GSE/aircraft.
